YES! It’s the perfect word, according to Daniel Overberger. And once you start taking his classes, you find it creeping insistently into your own consciousness. Blending a led ashtanga practice with elements of vinyasa flow and kundalini (and a healthy dose of humor), Daniel’s openness is palpable… and infectious. Whether you’re an experienced yogi or a stiff, apprehensive novice, you find yourself inspired and emboldened to tiptoe, walk, or run screaming out to your own personal edge. To say “yes” to questions you wouldn’t have even considered an hour ago.
For Daniel, the teaching gig started in much the same way. He was already a devoted practitioner of yoga when he began teaching in 2005. So when a friend suggested teacher training in Mysore, India, the perfect word was the only answer. In 2006, Daniel completed his teacher training in an apprenticeship (certificate program) under V. Sheshadri, studying ashtanga vinyasa yoga with a practicum in hands-on adjustments. This program also included studies in yoga therapy with Dr. V. Nagaraj.
Upon his return to Los Angeles, Daniel was offered a position teaching the donation-based yoga classes at Runyon Canyon, where he has since gained an appropriately rock star following. Featured in the LA Times, Amsterdam’s Yoga Journal and Los Angeles magazine’s “Best of 2009” issue, Runyon Canyon Yoga expanded its offerings in 2007 to include the instantly popular Sunset Yoga (as seen on KTLA-5) from May through September, a project that Daniel spearheaded and continues to maintain.

In 2010 Daniel returned to Mysore, India to study with his teacher's teacher, B.N.S Iyengar (a direct student of Krishnamacharya), and received his second teaching certificate. While in India Daniel also found reclusive teacher Nagarja S. Pande and studied meditation, pranyama and philosophy. Daniel was his only western student.
Daniel also teaches privately and recently released his first book—Leaving Stress Behind—which includes a detailed study of his class, a companion audio CD and a collection of stories from his travels in India called “Still Not Enlightened”. He has continued his own studies with teachers such as Matthew Sweeney, Ajay Kumar, H.R. Suresh, Eckhart Tolle, Harijiwan and Gurmukh. He also continues to feed his lifelong music habit, playing guitar with his rock and roll band, touring Europe, and working on various side projects, including a CD of yoga and meditation music called Dharma Gypsys. Music is so integral to who Daniel is that it naturally bleeds into his yoga classes, imbuing them with a meditative rhythm fully in sync with his students’ needs and intentions, everyone riding the groove out to the endless edge.
